Texas Commissioned Security Officer Level III – Recertification Course
The Texas Commissioned Security Officer Level III Recertification Course is the state-mandated training required every two years for all commissioned (armed) security officers in Texas. This course reviews the core topics from the initial Level III training while providing updated instruction on laws, regulations, and firearms proficiency.
The recertification ensures that commissioned officers remain compliant with Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 1702 (Private Security Act), Texas Administrative Rules, and the Texas Department of Public Safety – Regulatory Services Division (DPS/RSD) requirements.
Course Highlights:

Legal & Regulatory Updates: Review of Texas Penal Code, Government Code, and Administrative Rules related to armed security officers.

Firearms Training & Qualification: Safe handling, marksmanship fundamentals, and annual range proficiency test with duty weapon.

Requirements:

Must hold a valid Texas Commissioned Security Officer License (Level III).

Must provide a duty handgun (9mm or .38 caliber minimum), 50 rounds of ammunition, and required safety gear (eye and ear protection).

Must present a valid Texas Driver’s License or State ID.

Officers are required to complete recertification every two years per DPS/RSD standards.
Certification:
Upon successful completion of the Level III Recertification Course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion (Form PSB-30). This certificate is required to maintain an active Commissioned Security Officer License (Level III) with the Texas Department of Public Safety – Regulatory Services Division (DPS/RSD).
